LETS LACE SOME RIMS

 

The both wheels are in bad condition so lets have a go at rebuilding, it cant be that hard?

Let the re laceing begin.

1 - Rim not to good and spokes all rusty.

2 - Bearings seen better days to.

3 - Start to remove old spokes.

4 - All out need to clean and polish hub.

 5 - Nice and clean spry with several clear coats of lacquer.

6 - Use the tool for removing the retaining pice..

7 - Slowly wind out the retaining collar.

8 - Out with the bearings.

9 - Clean out 30 + years of grease.

10 - Nice new bearings to go in.

11 - In the freezer for twenty min's.

12 - After warming the hub the bearings just slide in lush.

13 - New stainless Steel spoke set.

14 - Note the different angles 90 degree on the inner and 110 on the outer.

15 - Always start with the Inner spokes, as you are not able to put these in after the outers are fitted.

16 - Inner's in every other hole in the hub.

17 - Inner's fitted with a gap of one hole the rim. So left inner miss a hole right inner miss a hole and so on.

18 - The first of the outer fed from below..

19 - This part is easy as there is only one hole at each end it can fit in.

20 - Last but one spoke in the hub .

21 - Last spoke in the rim.

22 - All in now just need to true the rim.

23 - Adjust spokes to get the rim central on the Hub vertically..

24 - Adjust spokes to get the rim true on the horizontal.

25 - Rim looking good.

27 - Now the rear wheel.

28 - Heat needed to undo the spokes.

29 - I need to remove the retaining collar to check the bearings.

30 - Out she comes.

31 - The bearing on this side is not to bad but l will replace as a pair.

32 - These are damaged and need replacing.

33 - Bearings out and same method of freezer and heat on the hub to replace.

34 - Clean Hub with new spoke set.

35 - Again start with the inner's.

36 - Flip over and do the inner's.

37 - Both set of inner's fitted.

38 - Support rim as the rear hub is tall.

39 - All inner's done.

40 - All spokes fitted true as the front.

41 - Fit new rim tape.

42 - New rear sprocket.
